KEY POINTS:
A 27-year-old Palmerston North man is to appear in court today following a street brawl in Turangi which hospitalised an 18-year-old Rotorua man.
Police said the 18-year-old was stabbed several times in the brawl, early on Sunday.
Acting Sergeant Peter Sowter said police were called to the centre of town at about 2am.
"The lone constable was confronted with a large group of people who were fighting, some having armed themselves with pieces of wood," he said.
After order was restored police were told of the stabbing, which they believed was related to the brawl, Mr Sowter said.
The injured man was taken to Taupo Hospital before being transferred to Waikato Hospital for surgery.
He remained in hospital today.
A Palmerston North man was arrested yesterday and charged with wounding with intent.
