KEY POINTS:
Police are hunting a man believed to be involved in two attempted abductions in the Auckland suburb of Grey Lynn.
Police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said a man approached a 13 year-old girl on Sunday who was walking her dog near Richmond School.
Ms Hegarty said the girl was grabbed from behind from behind and threatened by the man who tried to force her to walk away with him.
"She struggled and screamed and drew the attention of people nearby who came to her aid. The man then ran across Richmond Rd and into Cockburn St," Ms Hegarty said.
She said a short time later a 10 year-old girl was approached by a man in Cockburn St where she was grabbed and threatened before she managed to run off.
Ms Hegarty said the man was last seen running down Farrar St towards Grey Lynn Park.
"It's most likely the offender for both incidents is the same person and Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed either affront or who may have seen the offender in the Richmond Rd or Grey Lynn Park area," Ms Hegarty said.
She said the man is described as Maori or Polynesian, of medium build, aged in his twenties, and is believed to have been wearing tan coloured trousers, and a brown hooded top, possibly with stripes down each sleeve.
Ms Hegarty said anyone with information should call Avondale police on 820 5700 or 820 5782.
