Police continued their search yesterday for a second man involved in the alleged nine-hour kidnap and rape ordeal of a young woman in Auckland on Friday night.
Police said a 20-year-old woman willingly left the Globe Bar, central Auckland, in a car with two men on Friday night.
Nine hours later, after what police said had turned into an alleged abduction and sexual assault, the woman turned up with one of her attackers at the police station at 7am.
She told police she had seized an opportunity when one attacker - the man police are searching for - left the car, and the other fell asleep.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Cramer said police were still searching for the second attacker, but would not offer a description of the man.
"We are still seeking a second man, but I just don't feel it's in anyone's interest to provide any more information."
The other man appeared in Auckland District Court yesterday morning charged with sexual violation, and further charges were pending.
Mr Cramer said the woman had shown "excellent presence of mind".
"She'd been through a horrendous ordeal," he said.
"She did extremely well."
The woman had not needed hospital treatment.
Police wanted to hear from anyone who saw a maroon Honda Odyssey in the Tamaki Drive area about 10.30pm, the Seaside Park area of Otahuhu, or the southern corridor from Manurewa to the city between 6am and 7am on Saturday.
