Man shot in face by rifle

A 60-year-old man has been airlifted to Nelson hospital after a rifle was apparently discharged accidentally this afternoon.

The man received moderate facial injuries after the incident on a farm at Ngatimoti, near Motueka, police said.

He was given emergency treatment at the scene before being flow to hospital by the Summit Rescue Helicopter at 3pm today.

Police said they were investigating but no one was being sought in connection with the shooting.
