KEY POINTS:
Shots were fired from a car in central Christchurch early today, almost blinding the occupant of another vehicle.
Police said four people in a car were heading west along Moorhouse Avenue, around 3.30am when another vehicle pulled up alongside them travelling in the same direction.
One of the occupants of the second vehicle then pumped several shots from an airgun into the first car.
"As a result one of the occupants had a pellet lodged above his eye, requiring surgery to have it removed," Detective Sergeant Todd Hamilton said.
Two other occupants were also hit by pellets.
Mr Hamilton appealed for help in finding the "distinctive" second vehicle which was a late 90s Mitsubishi Lancer stationwagon with lowered suspension and shiny mag wheels with half the spokes being black and the other half silver.
"Anyone with information regarding this vehicle or incident is asked to contact us," he said.
