Man shot in chest after fight

A 24 year-old man was shot in the chest after a fight last night and is in a critical condition.

The fight at a home in the Christchurch suburb of Woolston happened at about 10.20pm with windows being broken, Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Harvey said.

Some people left the house in a car and about an hour later shots were heard in near-by Gould St.

Mr Harvey said police have found the car burnt out in New Brighton.

He said the armed offenders squad was called to the home and this morning police are carrying out a scene examination.

A 24 year-old man was brought to Christchurch Hospital last night by a friend and is in a critical condition.
