KEY POINTS:
A gunman is being sought after a man was shot during a domestic incident in the Coromandel Peninsula town of Whangamata overnight.
Police initially said no one was hurt but have now confirmed a man was injured when two shots were fired from a shotgun.
Police said that the shot man's injuries were minor and he did not need hospital treatment.
An ambulance was called but it left when the crew was abused by one of the people at the dispute.
Detective Sergeant Glenn Tinsley said the domestic incident lasted several hours overnight but armed police were not involved.
Police are trying to track down the gunman, Mr Tinsley said.
