Man shot by Rotorua police remains in intensive care

The man shot by Rotorua police last week remains in Waikato Hospital in a critical condition.

The 35-year-old was flown to hospital after being shot on Te Ngae Rd on Thursday afternoon. He was allegedly wielding a slasher.

A hospital spokeswoman this morning confirmed the man was still in a critical condition in the hospital's intensive care unit.

Meanwhile, the Department of Corrections revealed last week the man was on electronically monitored bail.

Police confirmed he was pepper sprayed before being Tasered three times before finally being shot twice.

Police believe he was affected by methamphetamine at the time.

A cousin of the man earlier said the man was a "good person" despite sometimes getting into trouble.

"He was doing good last time I saw him, it was a while ago, he was starting to clean up, he had a job."
