A Central Hawke's Bay man who was shot by police after allegedly threatening to blow them up with a hand grenade on Thursday is in a stable condition in hospital.
The 48-year-old underwent surgery at Hawke's Bay Hospital's for the gunshot wound to his torso and was later flown to Christchurch Hospital.
He was in a serious but stable condition today (Sunday) said a hospital spokeswoman.
Eastern District Commander Superintendent Sam Hoyle said police had been searching for the man for several days in connections with allegations of domestic assault, home invasion and attempting to ram a police car.
They considered him armed and dangerous because he had allegedly made previous threats to "take people out".
