KEY POINTS:
Police are investigating a reported shooting at the Wanganui home of former MP and high-ranking police officer Rana Waitai last night.
A 19-year-old man is understood to be in a serious condition in Wanganui Hospital.
Police would not give details of what had happened, but the Sunday Star Times said paper said it understood the shot man was the partner of one of Mr Waitai's grandchildren.
Mr Waitai is a former NZ First MP and Gisborne police district commander in the 1990s. He is now a lawyer and serves in local government.
