A man was seriously injured in a boating accident south of Motuhie Island in the Hauraki Gulf this afternoon.
The Auckland Coastguard said the man was pulled from the water unconscious but breathing having jumped from his vessel to avoid a collision.
It is believed that once in the water he was struck by the oncoming vessel, a 15m yacht.
He was retrieved from the water before being transferred to the Coastguard's Lion Foundation Rescue boat.
Police launch Deodar III transported a paramedic from Auckland to the scene before the Coastguard boat transported the man to an ambulance at Mechanics Bays.
