A man with serious burns is being rushed to hospital after his boat's engine caught fire near Waiheke Island.
The vessel was moored about 500m from Huruhi Bay when the blaze broke out about 9.45pm.
Another boat that was nearby reported the fire via Maritime radio.
Coastguard and fire crews responded.
The injured man, who was the boat's sole occupant, has been transferred to Kennedy Point where he will meet the Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter which will take him to hospital.
Firefighters are boarding a Coastguard vessel which will take them to the boat that was on fire so they can check it.
NZTA-Waka Kotahi has been locked in a dispute with the road builders.
