An Alexandra man is in a serious but stable condition in Dunedin hospital after being airlifted there from a motorcycle crash near Becks in Central Otago.
The crash occurred about 1pm today, Sergeant Ian Kerrisk, of Alexandra police, said today
Russell Kingsley Anderson, 48, of Alexandra, was riding along Loop Road near Becks when his motorcycle left the road on a moderate right hand bend.
He was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained serious injuries, Mr Kerrisk said.
He was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital by rescue helicopter.
"Road conditions were fine and visibility good at the time of the crash. No other vehicles were involved."
Mr Kerrisk said it was too early to speculate on the cause of the crash but police were satisfied neither speed nor alcohol were involved.
Police from Ranfurly and Alexandra including a serious crash investigator attended the crash along with fire staff from Omakau and ambulance staff and a doctor from Alexandra.
Mr Anderson is the chief fire officer for Alexandra and well known to all the emergency staff attending, Mr Kerrisk said.
