A man has been sentenced to eight years in jail for attempted murder after shooting a man he perceived to be boastful and a "threat" to his family.
John Schuster, 44, was jointly charged with Teariki McBride earlier this year for the attempted murder of Tulo Tuala.
Mr Tuala was seriously injured after the shooting at Makara Beach in Wellington in April.
High Court at Wellington was told today that Mr Tuala had needed surgery after the shooting and would probably need more surgery in future.
Schuster acknowledged family with a smile as he entered the dock.
