A Christchurch teenager made his apologies in Christchurch District Court today for his part in the Undie 500 mayhem in Dunedin a month ago.
Dudley Tui Chambers, a 19-year-old apprentice builder, told Judge Lex de Jong he was not involved in the Saturday night riots.
"I don't agree with them. Sorry about the behaviour."
He will have to pay a $250 fine and $130 court costs, for being part of the disorder in north Dunedin on the Friday night, when he dragged a couch into the street and set it alight.
He pleaded guilty to the charge of disorderly behaviour likely to cause violence.
He stood in the dock while police prosecutor Sergeant Ash Tabb read a summary of facts detailing all the weekend's activity when 1000 people descended on Dunedin in the Undie 500 event, driving from Christchurch.
The summary including the Saturday night riot when police and firefighters were pelted with missiles before order was restored, and people in the area feared for their safety.
Judge de Jong said: "You need to understand that if you appear in court again you are going to be dealt with in a different way and it won't be a monetary way."
"Yes, Sir," said Chambers
