Man sentenced over Albany abduction

Deqiong Deng, the man who admitted kidnapping five-year-old Cina Ma from outside her Albany home last year, has been sentenced to nine years' jail with a minimum five-and-a-half-year non-parole period.

The High Court at Auckland this morning heard details of how Cina, also known as Xin Xin, was kept bundled in a wardrobe for four days.

During that time her arms and legs were bound and she was also gagged.

The wardrobe was barricaded and the windows in an adjacent room were blacked out, the court heard.

Justice Judith Potter said the ordeal must have been terrifying.

The court also heard that Cina's family had been forced to relocate out of New Zealand and that Cina is suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.

Deng admitted to the kidnapping in March, having previously denied the charge.
