KEY POINTS:
A young man is in a serious condition in Gisborne Hospital's intensive care ward after he fell asleep in the middle of the road, and was run over early this morning.
Ambulance crews said the man, who is in his early 20s, suffered serious abdominal and pelvic injuries.
Police said there was nothing suspicious about the incident, which happened on Delatour Road at about 1am.
