Police are hunting a knife-wielding man who robbed a Christchurch cafe and bar of thousands of dollars on the weekend.
The man went into the Isobar Cafe, in suburban Hornby, just after 11am on Saturday and demanded the bar manager to put the takings in a bag for him.
She complied after the robber showed her a knife he had up one of his sleeves, Detective Sergeant Ross Tarawhiti of Christchurch South CIB said.
He drove off in a green Subaru stationwagon which was parked nearby.
Mr Tarawhiti said police would like to hear from an older man who was playing pokies in the cafe's pokie machine room at the time of the hold-up.
The robber was described as possibly Maori, aged in his late 20s or early 30s and was wearing a black cap with sunglasses, a grey hoodie sweatshirt and what appeared to be jeans.
