A Christchurch man has been arrested after he reversed onto a police car, sparking a police chase, before crashing his car into four parked cars.
Police were alerted to the vehicle being driven at speed along Riccarton Rd about 1.50am on Saturday.
The driver then drove through a roundabout and crashed into a barrier outside Christchurch Hospital, Fairfax Media reported.
He then reversed his car onto the bonnet of the patrol car, which had stopped behind him, before fleeing down Hagley Ave, Canterbury road policing manager Al Stewart said.
The police officers in the car were "very fortunate" not to be injured, Mr Stewart said.
