A man was perched on a cliff edge for more than five hours in Owhiro Bay in Wellington last night before rescuers were able to bring him down.
Senior Sergeant Jerry Broughton said police were alerted to the man's plight at 8.54pm yesterday, but it was not until 2.03am today that search and rescue members could climb up to the man and bring him down safely.
Mr Broughton said the man was now in hospital, but he had escaped without injury.
