A man clinging to the propeller of a yacht in Auckland's Waitemata Harbour was rescued after police were alerted by a friend aboard, police said today.
The rescue happened about 10.30pm yesterday near the Greenhithe Bridge.
A launch that was in the area of the 10m yacht went to the man's aid, while the police launch Deodar was also called out.
Police said the man, who had a serious gash on his leg, was rescued without incident. He was taken on board Deodar, before being transferred to an ambulance. The circumstances of how he came to be in the water were not yet clear.
