A Dunollie man in his early 80s became stranded on his roof yesterday - for the second time in as many months.
The Runanga Volunteer Fire Brigade was called just after 11am to help the man, who had climbed back on the roof to carry out a repair but found himself in a precarious position when his hip apparently gave out.
"The same man on the same roof on the same spot," Runanga fire station officer Kelvin Dobson said of the octogenarian, who the brigade also rescued in February.
"He's definitely got a hip issue," Mr Dobson said today. "It got him again." The rescue took about an hour while waiting for the pain relief administered to the would-be roof repairer to kick in.
Eventually the brigade, with the assistance of Greymouth volunteer firefighters, lifted the patient off the roof using a basket and he was taken to Grey Base Hospital.
