A man has appeared in court in relation to a serious assault on a police officer on Thursday.
The officer was knocked unconscious while responding to a call about a large group of people fighting on Apirana Ave in the east Auckland suburb Glenn Innes just after midnight.
He suffered a head injury and was hospitalised but was discharged yesterday and was expected to make a full recovery.
Abony Mandela Fidow, 23, appeared in Auckland District Court today charged with assault.
Fidow, who is listed on court documents as a storeperson from Glen Innes, was remanded in custody to appear again on Tuesday, when he is expected to apply for bail.
