An unemployed Taupo man has been remanded in custody after a brief court appearance today on a charge of murdering a five-week-old baby boy.
The man's name was suppressed when he appeared in the Taupo District Court today charged with murdering Jayrhis Ian Te Koha Lock-Tata.
The infant was taken to Taupo Hospital with head injuries last week and died in Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland two days later, last Saturday.
A post mortem found the infant died from non-accidental head injuries.
