A man alleged to have been be at the centre of an armed police callout on Auckland's North Shore last night, has been remanded in custody after a brief court appearance.
The 37-year-old appeared in North Shore District Court today after he was arrested at the Pak' N Save carpark in Wairau Rd, Glenfield.
He was charged with breaching a protection order and the unlawful possession of a firearm and was remanded to appear again on Monday.
The man was allegedly armed with a loaded shotgun and arrested after a tense standoff which lasted several hours before he surrendered without any shots being fired.
He was speaking to a woman who remained near him throughout the standoff.
Armed police were called to the supermarket about 10.20pm when a security guard was alerted to an armed man in an agitated state in the carpark.
