A man was remanded in custody when he appeared in New Plymouth District Court today charged in connection with a brutal attack on an elderly couple in their home at the weekend.
The 18-year-old New Plymouth man faced charges of aggravated burglary and two counts of injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Police allege the man broke into the Wallath Road home of a 74-year-old man and his 65-year-old wife on Saturday night and attacked them.
The couple both suffered multiple cuts and bruises and were kept in Taranaki Base Hospital overnight and released the following day.
The man was to reappear on May 6.
