An arrest has been made after a man was left with a knife embedded in his brain after an attack in central Wellington yesterday.
The victim underwent a five-hour operation yesterday to have the knife removed.
He arrived at Wellington Hospital with the 7cm-8cm multi-tool blade still in his head,
Capital and Coast District Health Board spokesman Michael Tull said the man was in a "comfortable condition".
"He's making good progress towards recovery," Mr Tull said.
Meanwhile Wellington CIB Detective Sergeant John Gualter said a 37-year-old Porirua man was arrested last night and is to appear in Wellington District Court today charged with assault intending to cause grievous bodily harm.
Police earlier said the two men knew each other and had a long-term disagreement.
