Man puts hands down woman's pants in Karori Park, Wellington

Police are searching for a man who pushed a woman over and shoved his hands down her pants in the Wellington suburb of Karori.

About 7.20pm on Wednesday, a man approached a woman walking in Karori Park and tried to indecently assault her, a police spokesperson said.

"The victim was walking in Karori Park, on Karori Rd, near the children's playground, when a man with a dog approached her, pushed her over and put his hands down her pants," the spokesperson said.

"The victim did not require ambulance treatment, but was shaken and disturbed by the assault. The woman has been offered victim support."

The man is described as Caucasian aged in his 30s, who was walking a mixed-breed dog at the time.

Police attended and undertook extensive area inquiries with the assistance of a dog unit but were unable to find the offender at the scene. A scene search is ongoing, as are more area inquiries today.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area of Karori Park on Wednesday around 7.20pm, who may have seen or heard anything unusual.
