Police are now able to confirm the name of the man who died after his car crashed into the Buller River on Saturday night.
He was Jeremy Carnahan, 40, of Marlborough.
Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash and a representative said as such there is no further information available at this time.
The car was seen going into the water just before 5pm on Saturday. A search for the car's driver ended on Sunday evening when a man's body was pulled from the river.
"Police wish to thank members of the public who alerted them to the vehicle in the first instance, as well as Westport SAR volunteers who assisted at the scene," said the representative.
