A man who pointed a bow and arrow at police officers when they tried to confiscate his dogs had to be Tasered and pepper-sprayed before police could subdue him.
According to police, the man had several arrows attached to a bow when officers they arrived at his Hamilton house yesterday.
"They were confronted at the front entrance to the home by an allegedly aggressive and confrontational male who presented a hunting bow at the officers that had three arrows attached," said Senior Sergeant Freda Grace.
"The offender then retreated inside the house, slamming and locking the door and tried to flee via the back door."
Ms Grace said the man was stopped at the home's back entrance, where officers used pepper spray and threatened him with a Taser to bring him under control.
The man appeared in Hamilton District Court yesterday on charges of threatening to kill or do grievous bodily harm, resisting police and possession of an offensive weapon.
"He was bailed to reappear later this month," said Ms Grace.
Hamilton City Council confirmed animal control officers visited a property yesterday in relation to a dog registration matter but could not comment further.
