A man has been flown to hospital with life-threatening injuries after plummeting 30 metres down a steep bank when he crashed through a safety barrier at the top of Wainuiomata Hill Rd tonight.
The man, in his late 20s, smashed through a road sign and the safety barrier on top the hill at Lower Hutt after failing to take a moderate bend about 6pm.
He was rescued by the Wellington Free Ambulance rescue squad with the help of the Fire Service and police.
Paramedics treated him at the scene before he was flown by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to Wellington Hospital.
