A Taumarunui man has gone on trial for the attempted murder of his terminally ill mother in a resthome at the start of last year.
Ian Kitchener Crutchley, 49, pleaded not guilty to attempted murder when he appeared in the High Court at Hamilton this morning for the start of what is expected to be a three-day trial.
Elsie Patricia Crutchley died on February 5 last year in a Taumarunui resthome, where she was being treated for the final stages of stomach cancer.
The Crown alleges Crutchley tried to end his mother's life, by administering an overdose of her medication.
