A man accused of murdering an Auckland mother of four has gone on trial today after earlier accusing the victim's son of the murder.
Cary Grant Thurgood, 43, pleaded not guilty in the High Court at Auckland to the murder of Leanne Kingston, 39, who was found dead in her Auckland home in August last year.
He pleaded guilty to attempting to pervert the course of justice by making a false statement to police in which he accused Ms Kingston's son of killing his mother.
Another man, Steven John Moorby, 42, is appearing alongside Thurgood, also charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice. He pleaded not guilty.
Ms Kingston was found dead in her Papakura home by one of her sisters on August 10, 2009.
A post-mortem revealed she was a victim of a violent attack.
The trial is expected to take about two weeks.
