Man on murder charge over death in Te Awamutu

Anthony Hallmond died on the footpath outside a North St property.

A 46-year-old man has appeared in court in connection with the death of a Te Awamutu man.

Anthony Robert Hallmond, 35, died on the footpath outside a North St property about 6.45pm after an altercation on Sunday July 23.

Storm Te Huia was remanded in custody without plea on a charge of murdering Hallmond.

He will reappear in the High Court at Hamilton later this month.

Detective Senior Sergeant Nigel Keall earlier today said police were pleased to have made an arrest and hoped it would bring some relief to Hallmond's friends and family.

"I would like to acknowledge the investigation team who have worked tirelessly on this investigation.

"We would also like to thank the public for their assistance in providing information to police."
