A Nelson man required more than 30 stitches to his neck after his throat was cut in an altercation outside a hotel on Saturday.
Police were called to the Turf Hotel in Stoke late on Saturday night, where there were reports of two groups fighting on the street.
Detective Sergeant Kevin Tiernan said the 18-year-old victim was lucky to not have suffered serious long-term injuries and was discharged from Nelson Hospital yesterday.
He said enquiries into the incident were continuing, with police trying to locate the occupants of a white Subaru Legacy who were involved in the fight.
