A Taranaki man is seriously injured in hospital in New Plymouth after losing both legs in an industrial accident today.
The accident happened at a Waste Management site at Bell Block, northeast of New Plymouth, when the man became trapped in a baling machine at the recycling plant, the Taranaki Daily News reported.
The man, believed to be in his late 20s, is understood to have lost both legs from the knee down.
A spokesman at Taranaki Base Hospital said the man was undergoing surgery.
His condition was serious but not life-threatening and he would remain in the intensive care unit overnight.
