A man suffered a back injury while competing in a mud run event in Auckland at the weekend.
The 25-year-old was taking part in the Tough Guy and Gal Challenge, which was held at the Woodhill Sands Equestrian Centre in Helensville on Saturday when he was injured shortly before 12.30pm.
He fell backwards while competing, the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust said, and was airlifted to North Shore Hospital.
He suffered moderate injuries to his back, but it wasn't considered serious, the rescue chopper said.
The Tough Guy and Gal Challenge saw participants run and wade through one or two laps of the 6km course, which includes water trails, crawling under barbed-wire obstacles, swamp crossings, bush trails, equestrian obstacles, a spider-web-net climb, open paddock running, hill climbs and a sand crawl.
