A man who died when his car crashed west of Auckland last night (Tues) has been named as Kawati Ross Timoti.
The 22-year-old from Northcote, the sole occupant of the car, died at the scene of the crash at the Patiki Rd interchange at about 9pm.
He was travelling on the northwestern motorway when it crashed into the railings and then a power transformer, said police.
The motorway was closed for seven hours while emergency services cleared the crash site.
The serious crash unit was seeking witnesses who saw the car before the crash and were also looking for the driver of a red vehicle with a damaged front bumper seen near the crash site.
