Man killed in trail bike event named

Police have released the name of a motorcyclist who died after falling from his motorcycle during a motorbike trail ride near Ohakune on Saturday.

Hamilton man Damian Mark Ansell, 29, died when he fell from his bike during the annual Desert Storm event in Karioi Forest around 11am.

Constable Dylan Hovelle, of Ohakune, said no one saw the fall.

"Other riders were on the scene within seconds of the crash and located the unconscious rider," he said.

Emergency services attended but Mr Ansell was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are investigating his death on behalf of the Coroner and the Department of Labour has been advised.
