The person who died in a house fire in Tokoroa last night has been confirmed as a man.
An investigation is continuing today into the cause of the blaze that killed the man, believed to be a local aged in his 50s, and left another in a critical condition.
Emergency services were called about 6.45pm to Dalmeny Street where the fire was "well involved" when crews arrived, said Northern fire communications shift manager Dallas Ramsay.
A body was found inside the house and another man, 47, was taken to Waikato Hospital where he remains in intensive care in a critical condition.
The body is expected to be removed from the scene later today and a post mortem examination will be carried out tomorrow.
