KEY POINTS:
The young driver who died when his car hit a bridge near Paeroa yesterday and flipped into a stream was Lewis Connell Wilkie, 21, of Thames.
Police said fatigue may have been the cause of the accident about 4pm yesterday. Speed was not thought to be a factor and it was not yet known if alcohol was involved.
The car hit a bridge on Te Aroha Rd and finished up side down in the stream.
Several motorists witnessed the accident. Police said it was not yet known if he died from impact injuries or drowned.
