A New Plymouth man is dead and another had to be cut out from a car after losing control while drag racing on a rural Taranaki road last night.
Hawera Police say speed and alcohol were a factor in the accident which happened near the
intersection of Fairfield and Beach Roads at 7.20pm.
Both cars were travelling in the same direction down a long straight road, said Hawera Sergeant Lincoln McCrea.
The serious crash unit were today investigating the cause of the crash.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw a dark blue Subaru and a light blue Holden Calais
leaving any address on Fairfield Rd displaying 'boy racer-type' driving to contact Hawera Police or call 0800 CRIMESTOPPERS.
