KEY POINTS:
A man was killed in a tragic industrial accident yesterday when the crane on his truck and trailer unit crushed his head after he had dropped off a container.
Jack Tukiri Kopara, 44, was delivering a container to a storage unit for Harbour Furniture on Auckland's North Shore. He was greeted by an employee of the furniture company, who waited at the front of the truck while Kopara unloaded the container.
But 10 minutes after the container had been put on the ground, the man went to check on Kopara and found him dead beside the truck with massive head injuries. It is believed the crane crushed Kopara, but it is unknown if the accident was a mechanical or operational fault.
Kopara's brother arrived at the scene minutes later. It is the second tragedy this year for the Kopara whanau. Kopara's niece Rowena was found murdered in a lay-by near Morrinsville in January. Police would not disclose the name of the delivery company.
