The man who died following a jet ski accident at a Canterbury beach yesterday has been named by police.
Balclutha man Paul Johnston died in hospital after the accident at Kairaki Beach, near the Waimakariri River mouth.
Witnesses told Fairfax the 44-year-old got into trouble after falling off his jetski and being swept into an area of turbulent water.
Police said in a statement their thoughts were with Johnston's family and friends.
The death has been referred to the Coroner.
