Police have revealed the man killed yesterday on a farm near the Kaipara Harbour died after felling trees in a gully.
The man's wife found him injured at about 4pm on his farm at Tinopai.
He died before emergency services could reach him.
Police are investigating the death and say they will release the man's name when his next of kin had been notified.
There were early reports the death was caused by a tree which was struck by lightning, after a severe electrical storm ravaged the North Island yesterday.
