A Nelson man has been jailed for threatening to burn down a local massage parlour because he did not want his sister to work there.
Shannon Brent Flewellen, 27, a fisherman, appeared in the Nelson District Court having admitted charges of intimidation, unlawfully entering a building, unlawfully being on a property, dangerous driving and driving with sustained loss of traction.
These were from four separate incidents occurring between February and April this year.
He also faced two charges of breaching parole and one of breaching a community work sentence.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Wayne Johnston told the court that Flewellen entered a business and confronted its manager on April 4,
In an aggressive verbal exchange, Flewellen threatened to burn down the premises if the manager did not do what he wanted. He left the building and repeated his threat to burn it before walking away.
Later he told police he was upset because he did not want his sister working at the premises.
The premises was a massage parlour, defence lawyer Brett Daniell-Smith told the court.
Flewellen was sentenced to a total of seven months' jail on the charges, with no leave to apply for home detention.
He was also disqualified from driving for six months.
