A Cromwell man has been sentenced to 15 months' imprisonment for the death of his friend after a fall from a quad bike in September last year.
Cody Ethan Mitchell, a 23-year-old engineer, had pleaded guilty to aggravated careless driving causing the death of Andrew Paul Grubb from Cromwell.
Grubb had fallen off a quad bike driven by Mitchell in Cromwell on September 11. He died five days later in Dunedin Hospital.
In the Alexandra District Court today, Judge Michael Turner said Mitchell was remorseful and accepted his guilt.
Mitchell was driving a one-seater quad bike under the influence of alcohol, with Grubb and two other friends on the back of the quad bike.
