A man who tortured his partner, pouring boiling water over her and beating her with a broomstick, has been sentenced to 7-1/2 years' prison.
Dean Griffiths, 41, was today sentenced at Wellington District Court on a number of charges including wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, Radio New Zealand reported.
Griffiths repeatedly beat his partner with a broomstick in a five-day attack that left her with a broken eye socket.
Judge Stephen Harrop said the attack featured elements of torture and inquisition and Griffiths was to serve at least half his sentence before being considered for parole.
