Dunedin man Shiloh Rickard has been sentenced to life imprisonment and has to serve at least 17 years for the brutal murder of his former partner.
Rickard appeared for sentence in the High Court at Dunedin today.
Rickard earlier admitted murdering Ms Telfer, 25, and assaulting her sister Lisa Telfer with a knife as she tried to help her sister during Rickard's attack.
In addition to a life sentence with a minimum non-parole period of 17 years, Rickard was sentenced to three years' jail for the knife attack on Lisa Telfer. The terms are concurrent, the Otago Daily Times reported.
