KEY POINTS:
A man who sexually abused his daughter and shared her with his friends was jailed for 13 years and seven months yesterday.
The man, 68, whose name was suppressed to protect his daughter's identity, was sentenced in Nelson District Court.
He was found guilty last year of 12 representative counts including rape, incest, indecent assault and inducing a girl under 12 years to do an indecent act.
The court was told the abuse began when she was about eight and continued until she was 34 with a short respite while she was married.
Judge David McKegg, who also ordered the man to pay his daughter $8500 in reparation, said he had shown no remorse for his actions.
In a victim impact report she read the court, the victim, now aged 45, said that bringing her father to court was "the hardest thing I had ever done".
"Now there is no need for me to hide any more - I am free of the burden and can move to the future."
Her father shared her with his friends and abused her whenever they were alone together, she said.
When her marriage broke up, her father forced himself on her again "and I felt sick every time", she said.
